Clubs and Organizations

Students have a variety of avenues to be involved in the life of the JBS Law Magnet and the Townview Magnet Center.  Information regarding Townview Clubs and Organizations - such as the Big D Marching Band, Choir, Orchestra and ROTC - is listed on the Townview Magnet Center page.  Listed below are some of the clubs, organizations and competitive teams offered specifically for JBS Law Magnet students.

With a reputation known from coast to coast, the JBS Law Magnet Debate Team is recognized as one of the top urban debate programs in the United States.  Competing at the UIL, TFA and Tournament of Champioins levels, the team members have demonstrated that hard work and effort pays rewards - not only with accolades and trophies - but with college scholarships and a true understanding of accomplishment.  Interested students should contact Mr. Don Gonzalez.

Skills USA

JBS Law Magnet students in career and technology courses are eligible to be a member of Skills USA - an organization that promotes student interest in a variety of areas from crime scene investigation, building search, felony stop, web site design, parliamentary procedure and other areas.  Our Skills USA team has established a nation-wide reputation as fierce competitors and servant leaders - as six of our students have served as National Officers!  Please see Mr. Severo Perez for more information on how you can become involved in Skills USA.

National Honor Society

The Judge Barefoot Sanders Chapter of the National Honor Society Faculty Committee invites students for induction in the Spring of each year.  Students must possess the attributes valued by NHS - leadership, scholarship and volunteerrism.  Students must have a minimum of a 90.00 cummulative GPA to be considered for the organization.  Our appreciation to  Ms. Pam Kinnan for sponsoring this incredible group of students.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination (formerly known as Odyssey of the Mind) allows students to work together on a project or skit and demonstrate their ability think creatively while accomplishing a task or goal.  The group competes at the district, regional and state level with competition in the Spring.  Thanks to Mrs. Rozana Rojas for providing guidance to this talented group of students.

One Act Play

UIL One Act Play provides students with a "theatrical" streak to demonstrate their prowess on the stage.  With an organizational meeting in the fall, this group of talented law students practice and compete on the district, regional and state level.  Thank you to Ms. Patricia Guerrero for her faithfulness and guidance for this dedicated group of students.

JBS Mock Trial

The JBS Legal Eagle Mock Trial team competes in the DISD Regional Competition and Texas State Mock Trial Competitions.  The team - comprised of 10-12 students - learns about the rules of court, rules of evidence, power of persuasion, and presents a full trial in front of a judge and jury consisting of Dallas area legal professionals.  Led by former Legal Eagle team member, Ms. Angela Taylor, the Legal Eagles begin practice in September, scrimmage in the Fall and compete in January/February with State Competition in March.

Student Government

The JBS Law Magnet Student Government's schedule will be announced after school begins.  Designed to afford students the chance to demonstrate and grow leadership skills, the student government is project based and is centered around service projects for the community and the school.  The group is open for all students interested in being part of a community service organization.

Eagles Rising Mentors

Started in the Fall 2009, Eagles Rising Mentors assist underclassmen by providing tutoring and mentoring to help all Legal Eagles reach their potential in and out of the classroom.  A student initiated and led organization - Eagles Rising Mentors represent a cross section of upper-classmen who have come together help fellow law magnet students.  A complete list of meeting times will be available at New Student Orientation and when enrollment packets are picked up.
